Bookmarks from a galaxy far far away

It's summer, the perfect time to lounge by the pool and read a good book. But what's a book without a bookmark? I've created Yoda, Luke, and Leia bookmarks that are almost too cute to use! You can use any character for these adorable markers, but I chose these as starters. Enough talk. Let's dive in!

Let's talk materials:

1. Green, brown, or black construction paper or cardstock depending on the character

**Note: if you have colored cardstock available, skip steps 5-7**

2. White printer paper (or construction/cardstock)

3. Fine and ultra fine sharpies

4. Markers and/or colored pencils (depending on your preference)

5. Glue stick and tape

Let's get started!

(I'm going to be using Luke as the example, but just adjust as needed for other characters)

1. With a pencil, sketch a half circle on white printer or construction paper, then trace over it with a fine tip sharpie.

2. Next, outline the shape of Luke's hair with a sharpie and then color in with a marker or colored pencil.

3. Draw a box or strip underneath the half circle (this is a tab to help attach to the actual bookmark)

4. Place your character's head underneath the construction paper (color of your choice) and make a mark from one end of its head to the other. Make a line from that edge to form a rectangle (length doesn't matter, do it as long or as short as you prefer). Cut this out and glue the box underneath the head to the piece of construction paper.

5. Next, take your Luke head attached to the brown paper and line it up on a piece of white paper. Trace the head with a pencil, leaving some room between the head and the line. (This outlines the character nicely and keeps it from being too flimsy)

6. Here's the tricky part. You want to make a strip that will be the backing of the bookmark. From the outline shape of the head you made, draw another strip/rectangle skinner than your construction strip and cut that out underneath.

7. Add glue to your strip and the head cutout and glue the construction paper/head onto the strip. If this is sounding confusing, look at the pictures above

8. Now that your bookmark looks like a bookmark, it's time to decorate! I added quotes to mine, but you can add stickers, stars, or just leave it blank. For the quote I cut a rectangle on white printer paper smaller than the actual bookmark (so there would be a border) and I wrote a quote specific to each character in fancy letters and glued this on.

And there you have it! Cute bookmarks that are adorable and functional. If you have any questions, click the contact button on the top of your screen. I'll be happy to help! Don't forget to sign up for reminders on the next time I post another cute craft!

May the force be with you!
